There is a long-held belief that “culture provides its members with an implicit theory about how to behave in different situations and how to interpret others behavior in these situations.” Noted anthropologist Roger Keesing goes on to say that culture is shared in its “broad design and deeper principles, but not every individual shares precisely the same theory of cultural code.”
By now, we all understand what communication is and that there are several ways to communicate. One is through sexting. If you do not know what sexting is, you might not find it necessary to learn – as you are surely getting up there in years.
Former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner reportedly loves this specific form of communication. Mr. Weiner knows how to behave in certain situations, therefore he would not sext Hillary Clinton. That would not be appropriate behavior. They both share the same culture and they both agree this would not be the way to communicate.
However Mr. Weiner appears to be only sexting women of a certain expertise…an expertise that is different than that of Mrs. Clinton. Like aspiring porn stars.
The key word here being ‘aspiring’. From one inspiring female porn star to another aspiring male porn star (Weiner), there’s no miscommunication. They are both highly narcissistic, exhibitionists…and both adults. Where the culture separates them is in the ‘looks’ department. Probably brains too…but not by much.
You see, Mr. Weiner is satirically unattractive, with a very wrinkled face, sheep like hair and a Ted Bundy clown-like smile. However, like many men in similar situations, from within the same culture, he sees himself as Adonis on steroids. Or on Viagra.
While I couldn’t care less about Mr. Weiner’s tiny and overly exposed package, I definitely want to understand his online persona, Carlos Danger. Was Danger randomly pursuing young, stunning, supermodels because he needed some validation for his aging self; was it because he actually believed that a young beauty would fall for his minuscule masculinity well-balanced by a huge ego; was it because his beautiful wife was not good enough; was it playing a game; was he spying or is he just another idiot threatened by impotency? Physical, political, financial?
And what did Donald Trump mean when he said that Mr. Weiner’s wife “made a wise decision to separate from her husband as he, Donald Trump, knows Anthony well and she will be far better off without him.”
How well does he know him? Have they communicated before? Are they communicating now? Perhaps we’ll never know…
